If Gnats

"If gnats were BBQ flavored, it wouldn't be so bad."

Grant Frazier - Horn Sergeant

The June camps are now complete with the ENTIRE SHOW on the field as of June 21st. The corps is quickly ramping up for its first competitions on July 10 and 11 in Valdosta, GA then Orlando, FL. Having a completed show will allow the audience an early season opportunity to fully immerse themselves into the show's storyline, "X - Drum Corps Evolved." The corps worked through 3 consecutive 3 day camps at North Port High School to get the show completely down on the field. In the all age world this would be the equivalent to everydays. While both the brass and percussion increased their numbers in June, we are still looking for two trumpets, one lead baritone, and at least 3 guard to fill the corps out.

The Sun Devils first public performance is scheduled for July 4, 2009 at North Port Freedom Fest. The Sun Devils will first be participating in a combined parade performance with the North Port High School Alliance Drum and Bugle Corps. Many Sun Devils are also North Port Alliance members. Later in the evening, the Sun Devils will fill North Port High School stadium with the sounds our 2009 production. Come out and be one of the first to hear our 2009 show!

The week after the North Port Freedom Fest, the Sun Devils will be in high gear getting on the bus for our DCI Mini Tour of Georgia / Florida. 2009 marks the Sun Devils first ever appearance in the DCI arena. The Valdosta show will feature another DCA South Corps, The CorpsVets. This will be the first time the Sun Devils will encounter another DCA corps on the DCI stage. The CorpsVets are also participating in DCI's All-age division as members of DCI Atlantic.

July 10 - Teal Sound's Sounds of the South
July 11 - DCI Orlando

That's it for now. The uniforms are fitted and the equipment is checked out. And yes, if gnats were BBQ flavored, it really would not be that bad...North Port, FL is home to small dog size gnats that tend to be around when taking a huge breath before an attack. YUM!
